MIT INTERPHASE EDGE 2012

EMPOWERING DISCOVERY | GATEWAY TO EXCELLENCE

RESIDENT FACILITATOR APPLICATION

The Office of Minority Education seeks applicants for summer employment in MIT Interphase EDGE 2012.

Interphase EDGE is a two (2) year scholar enrichment program that includes a seven-week summer program as well as an academic year component. The focus of the summer component is to give the scholars an introduction to the MIT experience by exposing them to the rigors of a full subject load and to life on MIT’s campus. In addition, the Interphase EDGE curriculum is uniquely designed to impart pivotal concepts that will increase long-term academic success. In other words, the program will not only give students an “edge” on their MIT experience; it will catalyze their success beyond MIT. During the summer and academic year, scholars will participate in a range of personal and educational development seminars and activities designed to ensure their smooth transition to college life. Through the academic year component, scholars will continue to build upon the relationships created during the summer by attending bi-weekly meetings with EDGE advisors and monthly professional and academic enhancement events. They will also participate in programs that will expose them to various career pathways.

Approximately 70 incoming freshmen participate in Interphase EDGE by spending 7 weeks (June 27th – August 14th) at MIT and undertake a curriculum of Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, and Communication/Writing, hone their study skills, and participate in a myriad of co-curricular activities.

MIT Interphase EDGE Resident Facilitators attend lectures, facilitate class and mastery in their subject area, hold regular office hours in the evenings, and monitor students’ academic progress.

All resident facilitators are required to live in the dormitory that houses Interphase EDGE Scholars, attend meetings, participate in scheduled program events, assist with event organization, and perform other duties as requested. The weekly workload is approximately 35 hours including some weekend assignments.

The compensation is competitive and includes salary, room, and a few meals throughout the summer. Ideal candidates are graduate and upper-class students who have earned at least a “B” in the courses which he/she wishes to facilitate.

Resident Facilitators must be available to report to campus for training beginning Friday, June 15, 2012.

*Please note that for Summer 2012, you will not be able to participate in Interphase EDGE and have a paid UROP.*

Deadline for submitting online application is noon on Wednesday, February 22, 2012. MIT students who are members of underserved groups are especially encouraged to apply.

INCOMPLETE OR LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
